Abstract: The goal of this project is to develop a new strategy for stabilization of cylindrical vesicles (polymeric nanotubes) obtained by self assembly of highly asymmetric ABC triblock terpolymers. The activities are oriented to the synthesis of various ABC triblock terpolymers. The composition and length of the blocks will be tuned in order to obtain terpolymers that self-assemble into high aspect ratio nanotubes in water medium. The nanotubes will be stabilized by UV-induced crosslinking. The stabilized polymeric nanotubes can be used, for example for preparation of high aspect ratio hybrid nanomaterials having a magnetic or semiconducting core (in the case of poly(acrylic acid) blocks) or gold core (in the case of poly(dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) blocks) and a polymer corona. |
