This chapter summarizes the latest research activities on the synthesis, solution and bulk properties, and applications of molecular or cylindrical brushes. These soft materials typically show a worm-like or rod-like conformation in solution and on surfaces as a result of intramolecular excluded-volume interactions between the densely grafted side chains. We focus on important applications, in particular as unimolecular templates for one-dimensional hybrid or inorganic nanostructures, for stimuli-responsive nanoparticles, and for other advanced materials.
