Abstract: We devised a combinatorial approach to investigate the influence of the electric field strength on the in-plane alignment of lamellar block copolymers in thin films using electrodes in a gradient geometry. This method allows generating different field strengths on a single sample under constant environmental conditions (e.g. temperature, solvent-vapor) by a fixed voltage as a function of the electrode distance. The direct visualization of the microdomain alignment with SFM at different electrode gaps in combination with the evaluation of the respective order parameter from the SFM images allows to determine a minimum electric field strength required for microdomain alignment as well as the maximum possible thin film orientation for a given polymer system. link to full text |
