Structure Formation in Block Copolymer Solutions under Electric Fields

This project deals with the interaction of external electric fields with the microdomains of block copolymers in bulk and thin films. For this purpose, we synthesize appropriate model systems and characterize them with respect to their behavior in external electric fields in two and three dimensions.
In particular, the influence of the elctric field on the phase behavior of the respective block copolymers and the shift in ODT will be investigated using birefringence and SAXS measurements.
X-ray scattering image of a 50 wt-% solution of a lamellar PS-b-PI in THF at a field strength of 12 kV/mm.
