Subproject B1:

The influence of molecular order on electronic and photonic processes in organic devices

Prof. Peter Strohriegl (Macromolecular Chemistry I)
Prof. Markus Schwoerer (Experimental Physics I)

Over the last few years this subproject mainly dealt with two topics. The electrontransporting material and emitter tris(8-hydroxyquinolin) aluminium (III) Alq3, which is often used in OLEDs, was extensively examined with x-ray analysis, electron spin resonance and different spectroscopic techniques. Along with these investigations, new methods for the synthesis of reactive mesogens with fluorene and bithiophene units were developed. Oligomeric mixtures with acrylate endgroups are now well characterised and are available in the gramme scale. In the LC phase these reactive mesogens can be easily aligned and this alignment can be preserved by subsequent cross-linking. A new aspect deals with fluorene-containing reactive mesogens and their structuring using a mask to obtain a type of negative photoresist.
