Subproject b2:

Photoaddressable Block Copolymers for Holographic Data Storage Applications

Prof. Hans-Werner Schmidt (Macromolecular Chemistry I)
Prof. Lothar Kador (Experimental Physics)

In subproject B2, photoaddressable block copolymers are investigated for holographic data storage applications. In the past years, optimizing the systems and refining the physical methods resulted in great progress regarding the long-term stability of the holographic gratings, preparation of thick samples (1 mm) by injection molding - which are a prerequisite for efficient angle multiplexing -, and rewritability. Central aspects of the following proposal are (i) increasing the sensitivity by using photoaddressable organic glasses and photopolymerization, (ii) further improvement of the long-term stability (e.g., by irreversible cross-linking), and (iii) optimizing the optical quality of thick samples as a prerequisite for error-free storage and read-out of two-dimensional data fields.
