Subproject b9:

Hybride Systems with magnetic nanoparticles

Prof. Axel Müller (Macromolecular Chemistry II)
Prof. Matthias Ballauff (Physical Chemistry I)
Dr. Reinhard Richter (Experimental physics V)

This project deals with complementary approaches to novel magnetorheological fluids (MRF). One the one handsuspensions of hybrid particles, which are generated by embedding of magnetic nanoparticles into core-shell cylinder brushes, on the other hand, suspensions of sherical or cylindrical polymer nanoparticles in conventional ferrofluids (inverse system). We investigate the structure and properitesof the cylindrical polymer brushes through imaging and scattering methods. This allows us to analyze die structural changes during the synthesis in detail.
Microcopic image of the structure formation in inverse MRF from polystyrene latex beads (d= 10.86 μm, Φ = 0.175) in Ferrofluid APG512A in a layer of 25μm (left). Chain formation in a filed of H0 = 41.4 kA/m,applied in y-direction.
